What are Cysts?
Cysts are quite common among the general population and are, in most cases, noncancerous. They show up as sac-like cavities that are typically filled with keratin. These growths can form anywhere on the face and body in a variety of shapes and sizes and often feel like a lump under the skin. While most cysts do not cause harm or pain, some can become troublesome for patients if the increase in size or become inflamed and unsightly. Those that are larger in size are usually surgically removed and sent for biopsy to ensure they are a benign cyst. Our Dallas, Texas practice treats many kinds of cysts under the guidance of board-certified dermatologist Dr. Adean Kingston. Our skilled team can provide you with an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan at our office, Adean Kingston, M.D., PLLC while taking into account your medical needs and history.

What Causes cysts?
There are numerous factors that can lead to a cyst's formation. Cysts can develop around a foreign object such as an ingrown hair or from a piercing within the skin (such as earrings) or as the result of a clogged oil gland within the skin. Although the majority of cysts are benign, some could potentially be cancerous. We will discuss whether or not the cyst needs further treatment and if so, options for treatment.
What are the Symptoms of cysts?
The symptoms associated with a cyst vary, depending on the size and location of the growth. In most cases, cysts are detected by an abnormal lump beneath the skin. Some of these lumps can be painful, especially if they become inflamed or rupture while others may be visible but painless. Small cysts, which are more common, often do not cause symptoms or exhibit any indication of ongoing growth and may be barely noticeable.
